St Michaels

A wooded parkland/heathland mix on Gallow Hill at Leuchars, with views over the River Eden to St Andrews' spires. Small subtle greens and narrow precision fairways; the signature par-3 15th "St Mikes" is one of the most demanding short holes in Fife. Laid out by Old Tom Morris and Hugh Hamilton in 1903, extended to eighteen holes in 1996. The site is a prehistoric settlement protected by Historic Scotland.

The Course

Par 70, 5,802 yds. Not links — wooded, tight and shot-shaped. The signature par-3 15th "St Mikes" is one of the most demanding short holes in Fife: a steep dip left and behind, bunker front-right, out of bounds left and the railway line behind; the 14th–17th stretch is the teeth of the course. The contrast to the coastal courses makes it a useful calm-weather or variety day.

History

Old Tom Morris and Hugh Hamilton, 1903; eighteen holes since 1996. No major championship record found; not ranked in any Top 100 list.
